Hey Mary,
So what I can tell you is that the shows will be between the 23rd and 29th. That means that we could do a show on any of those nights.The night we are most unlikely to be doing a show is the 26th.
Venues range from 230 people to 500 .
We will be taking a Crowe and Doyle songbook attitude to the shows with a heavy leaning toward new songs, however Alan and I are well aware that a show is a show and we will endeavor to make it entertaining.
There will be guests. This isn't a band show, though there will be recognizable faces. For the most part expect guitar,mandolin,piano,singing and telling stories. We will have a gear or two or three to step up when the time feels right - RC

Folks,
after much tooing and froing and an unavoidable changes in other responsibilities, I am very sorry to tell you that The Ordinary Fear of God will not be touring in August this year.

Sentimentally it would have been great to mark the tenth anniversary of when we first played in Austin, but in reality it's not as important as other things.

You will be pleased to know though that Alan and I have locked in for May next year. We will be touring for 4 weeks. Sorry to those that are disappointed but we will make it up to you next May. - RC

Hellos and hugs to the lovely family of friends who enjoyed TOFOG's first Austin, Texas shows exactly eight years ago today -- August 3, 10, and 17, 2000. In addition to the unforgettable memories of seeing TOFOG perform live, we made some great and lasting friendships with fans from all over the world (still e-mailing and getting together today for visits -- thank you, TOFOG!). These were truly magical moments - beautifully captured and portrayed in the "Texas" dvd. Just for those (mostly) ladies who spent all that time together with me in long lines and squashed at the front of the stage in Stubb's, the high temperature today in Austin will be a record-breaking 107 degrees F - I know you can all appreciate that (lol)!! > Thanks so much, Murph, for the great site and all the news, book info, poetry, etc. -- Sue -- Austin, Texas

THE BIZ -- "Mark Saturday in your diary, because on that historic day one of the world's most famous men - with one Oscar win and two nominations under his belt - will set this city on fire while it's shopping.

Russell Crowe and his band The Ordinary Fear of God (henceforth known as RC and TOFOG) will be at the Bankstown Centro shopping centre playing for mums ducking into Woolies for laundry powder, snotty kids begging for new computer games and bored teenagers with headphones stuffed into their ears.

It's the latest in a string of RC and TOFOG performances. Last week the band played at the MTV awards, where they were the oldest act on stage by a decade. They played again at the Easter Show. And now the Centro. Has he ever knocked back a gig?

Fans can get closer to Russ if they buy a copy - only $16.95 - of his album, My Hand, My Heart, the single from which, the shopping centre's people inform us, went straight to No. 1 upon its release in Spain.

Sting and Billy Bragg liked it, so that's enough to convince us. Russell Crowe and The Ordinary Fear of God, coming to an office trivia night, family barbecue or year 10 formal near you.

We had the chance to spend Easter holidays in Australia, and we attended the shows that Russell and TOFOG2 held in Melbourne at Grand Central, in Sydney at The Vanguard and finally at the Royal Easter Show. Being our first Oz & shows experience, here is our brief report.

The Grand Central is a very cozy space, first row tables extremely close to the stage, which allows for a wonderful interaction between fans and the band. Russell looked relaxed. As we were used to the standing shows a la Austin and Chicago, it was difficult not to tap our feet or shake our heads to the music. Fortunately, by the end of the act Russell showed some mercy and called out for people to dance, which everyone from the back and some of us in front promptly did. It would be very awkward to be seating during Folsom & Testify! Note about pictures there: we asked the waitress if they were allowed, and she said that last week Russell said he would leave the premises if pictures were taken. During the show, however, flashes and cameras happily went on, and Russell was half poking fun half looking tired of the whole thing. By the end of the show, a security man from the place asked politely not to use flashes. In short, pick your choice. Very confusing, though highly satisfying for those who could take pictures.

The Vanguard. Very different from the Grand Central as the stage is higher from the table, but still we got a good table, and good view. People with cheaper tickets are in the balcony, hence it is more difficult for them to jump to the first row when called (which Russell did, by the beginning of Folsom). The opening act was very entertaining. The show was more energized than the Melbourne one, perhaps because they feel more comfortable even though the stage is tiny, tiny, tiny. He did not sing Barry Kable in Melbourne (though it was on the options of the set list) but he did sing it in Sydney and it was a great rendition, everybody got into the song. Not much of a dancing night, but there is always a spot for those who are willing :) Even though the audience was on the whole not familiar with TOFOG, except for a handful, people ended up getting into the music (a couple of girls were there because they had seen them on TV a while ago and found out about the show very recently).

Royal Easter Show: what a rollercoaster of experiences, from the The Vanguard to a country fair! Fun & family, rodeos and cowboy hats all over the place, in a very odd setting as it was the Olympic park, very modern, everything well organized. The opening acts had close to zero attendance, and it is true that while Russell was doing his soundcheck, nobody was there except for die-hard fans. When the opening acts ended, and the rodeo finished, people started pouring in the amphitheatre. This one was more similar to the old shows (standing) and also more fun: at least you can dance to Bayou and What You Want Me To Forget! The sound was not good, which cut Russell talking (first row and you could practically hear nothing, lucky that we know the songs by heart). The show was shorter due to that, or perhaps they decided on doing a shorter show since the last train from the Olympic park left at 11:30PM, and there was no other transportation unless you chose to charter a boat.... Also here, not a die-hard fan audience (two girls had heard about the show barely that morning), but in the end many of them were engaged. Mixed audience, both male and female, youngs and families as well.

So, wonderful chance to see a different TOFOG in a different country, with the great addition of the bass guitar and the pianist, which allows for good solos in which Russell can sit and enjoy the music as well, exceptionally comfortable venues, though we miss the old standing shows, and we would do it all over again without a blink of a doubt.

Everyone was charming, gracious and very kind. The guys as always very polite, Bruno with his mind in a gazillion things at a time and yet also always considerate and nice. And Russell looked great, needless to say? As soon as he gets out on the stage, you forget about flights and you concentrate on what & who is standing in front of you.

We are headed back to the airport in 15 mn, when we get home we will be sending some pictures. Thanks for the work you put into your page & take care.

I have been reading the comments on the HOB concerts, and enjoy most of them.

Anon, if you were unhappy with a concert, try to word your feelings in a gentler manner. His schedule is hard - he is doing multi things at once (remember his day job!) - he gives his all on stage - he is exhausted, with a punishing tour schedule in NZ and Oz coming up in April. Let's give the guy a break!

Adding -- From Russell's own lips, the band has grown and tightened and matured and become something very special. I hope all of us will get a chance to see them -- someday.

From Russell on the San Diego show:re the san diego show.there is a private party booked on the same night, therefore our doors won't open until 10.15,it will be quite a late show.

we play san diego house of blues on the 8th (March).
l.a house of blues on the 9th.
if we add extra shows it would be in l.a,after those dates.we will only add dates if there is a need.
we play in new zealand after that.
residencies in syd,melb and brisbane in april.
some one off shows coming up,a benefit for a foundation,a show at a record store at the entertainment quarter in fox studio's,the royal easter show, shows in north queensland, the band works through to the first week in may.

Ed Note: A more detailed schedule will follow. I am assuming the first dates are in March. This will be confirmed. The tour will not include Alan Doyle, sad to say.
